2009 Reunion – Norfolk

The USS Rankin Association's Sixth Annual Reunion was held in Norfolk, Virginia from September 17-20, 2009, at the Sheraton Waterside hotel. A total of 100 people attended.
The hotel is in the center of Norfolk's busy waterfront, and many attendees spent time seeing the neighboring attractions.
Friday's tours were by luxury double-decker bus to the base at Little Creek and the boardwalk at Virginia Beach. The highlights of the day were the amphibious landing simulator at Little Creek, the relaxing walks on the boardwalk, and the evening entertainment by the Commodores Barbershop Chorus.
On Saturday, one group went to Williamsburg and Yorktown, while another toured USS Ramage (DDG-61) as guests of the Commanding Officer. The ship's namesake, Medal of Honor recipient Lawson "Red" Ramage, had been the Rankin's C.O. in 1953-1954. His son was on hand to talk with the people in our party.
For this reunion, we have this Main Page plus two others. Use the buttons below to view the 2009 Reunion Memory Book, including pictures of all attendees and a recap of all our activities, or to view other photos from the reunion.
