The USS Rankin Association's Fourteenth Annual Reunion was held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from September 28-October 2, 2017. Reunion Headquarters was the Red Lion Hotel Harrisburg/Hershey. The reunion ran from Thursday through Sunday, with a banquet on Sunday evening. Reunion groups from four other amphibious ships joined us at the reunion: USS Bexar (APA-237), USS Cambria (APA-36), USS Pickaway (APA-222), and USS Yancey (AKA-93). Total attendance was Rankin 51, Yancey 23, Pickaway 21, Cambria 20, Bexar 14, for a total of 129 people. The large number of attendees made for a wonderful reunion, with tremendous camaraderie in the Hospitality Room and on the tours, not to mention hearing sea stories from a whole new group of sailors.  Our Hospitality Room was well-stocked with top brands of beer, wine, and liquor, as well as a huge assortment of soft drinks and snacks. The reunion included optional tours of Amish country, the Gettysburg museum and battlefield, and chocolate town Hershey, Pennsylvania. Three Mile Island does not allow visitors, but the site was easily visible from the air or from our tour bus.
